Five Values for the Discipleship Journey: Twenty-One Lessons for Small Groups is a practical discipleship resource developed by James R. Hicks in cooperation with Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI). Designed for small group use, this series explores the five discipleship values championed by NDI: fervent prayer, compassionate outreach, comprehensive biblical learning, intentional mentoring and equipping, and authentic relationships.
Each of the twenty-one lessons offers biblical grounding, reflective questions, and hands-on applications. While designed for one session each, lessons can be adapted for longer use depending on the group’s needs. The material complements the Church of the Nazarene’s “Journey of Grace” vision and helps local churches engage participants in becoming Christlike disciples who also make disciples.
Hicks brings over four decades of small group teaching and pastoral ministry experience to this work. His practical theology background and mentoring passion are evident throughout the lessons. Whether participants are new to discipleship or seasoned in faith, this guide offers a fresh approach grounded in Scripture and communal learning.
This resource is ideal for church small groups, Sunday School classes, or discipleship cohorts looking to deepen spiritual practices and foster intentional relationships in a local and global context.
